Vsg in 2 weeks, considering backing out
I'd say only the first six weeks were tough when you're drinking only liquids, or moving onto purees. After that it's easy if you are dedicated and stay on plan.
I eat steak regularly, but I waited for my stomach to completely heal before I tried it. Beer makes me feel bloated so if I drink alcohol, it's usually wine or a martini.
It's normal to be panicking before major surgery. If you've dieting in the past, you know how easy it is to put the weight back on once you stop the "diet." This is where WLS is so much better. You change your eating habits permanently. Your desire for certain foods can diminish or go away entirely. Prior to surgery I loved junk/fast food. Now I just don't crave it. I prefer my own cooking, which is a miracle in itself since I am not a great cook. But I've found many things that I like to eat that are delicious, nutritious and on my plan.
I'm two years post surgery and have lost a lot of weight. I never would have done it without WLS. It really is worth it. Hang in there

Thank you very much for the advice, Im still nervous and apprehensive though a better thanks to all the information lol
cheers
I considered backing out from the point I signed on the dotted line, right up to when they were rolling me down the hall to the OR and moved me from the gurney to the operating table. This was even under the influence of a little happy pill they gave me about an hour beforehand, to calm my nerves.
My experience from that point to today has been essentially trouble free. No post op compiications, aside from some serious opioid-caused constipation. I wasn't having pain, but I glugged the liquid Lortab because I wanted to feel the high. (I don't normally take anything, but figured I was home and mostly sleeping anyway, let's try that. My considered advice would be, don't do that.)
So here it is, 5.5 years later. I've lost my weight and kept it off. I still eat high-protein/low carb, but I enjoy a glass of wine when I go out to dinner (once or twice a month). Last week a normie friend and I went to dinner, and we split a lovely rib-eye - it was delicious! We split the sides, too, creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. I had a few bites of the spinach, most of my steak, and was totally happy.
Beer is another matter. I was unable to drink bubbly things (just made my sleeve very unhappy) for a long time. For me that wasn't a problem because I've never been a beer drinker. Then a couple years ago I went on a trip to Austin TX and drank a couple Heinekins in a ****kicker dance hall with no trouble. Tasted great! Just those two bottles, and haven't had beer since, but I was glad it didn't give me trouble. (That's another piece of advice - generally, don't try new things on your sleeve in public. It could be bad.)
This was by far the best thing I've ever done for myself. I was 60 when I had surgery - I admire that you're getting it done at an early age, that's my only regret, that I lived fat and miserable for so many years. Good luck!
