Sugar Free w/ Sugar Alcohols?
I'm looking at my bottle of sugar free Mrs. Butterworth's syrup, and it contains 8 grams of Sugar Alc. I think I've heard that sugar alcohols are just like sugar, but I'm confused! I'm sort of counting on this working with Eggface's ricotta pancakes after surgery (love this recipe!!) which I've been testing out before surgery. I want this to work as a pureed food when I chew them up really well. Now, I'm having doubts. Is this not a good idea? Do sugar alcohols cause dumping?

Sugar alcohols can cause loose stools if you have too much, be careful there.

Loose stools my Aunt Fanny. If I had something with 8 grams of suygar alcohols, I'd be crapping my brains out. Sugar alcohols are the devil's delight.
And it doesn't matter if you had WLS or not. They act the same on anyone.
Look up sugar free gummi bears on Amazon, and read the reviews.

To clarify, it's not dumping at all. It will just make you really sick to your stomach. Not every gastric distress is dumping.

Sugar Alcohols are sweeteners. They are not quite as sweet as sugar, and are not labeled as sugar since they are not "pure" sugar. They are used to help counteract the aftertaste of artificial sweeteners like aspartame. Sugar Alcohols contain calories, but not quite as many as regular sugar. They can cause dumping syndrome in gastric bypass patients, though are tolerated better by some people than regular sugar. They are also known to have a laxative effect. Be careful.
The meanest trick is when there is a label that says "Sweetened with Splenda".
You buy and then get the awful gas and diarrhea. When you read the ingredients it has maltitol, sorbitol and/or other sugar alcohols along with some Splenda.
I read the ingredients before I buy anything and if it has one of -itols then I don't buy it. Sugar alcohol does not cause dumping but it causes some bad gas and diarrhea.
