The "net carb" BS
I am so used to it... and nobody ever stopped me... theater food is too expensive.. I get nuts, and my own flavored water.. Honey gets a soda... My purse is big...lol

The interesting thing is, that scientists would be getting all of their research info from persons who are super sensitive to carbs. So, you ARE the source of knowledge in this area.
The truly frightening part of all of this is that these companies are allowed to undercut their own numbers and pull the uninitiated further into carb addiction. Children are definitely the most at risk, because they are just eating what they are given, from parents living in carb addiction.
This is exactly the kind of light we need to shine on this stuff. Thank you.
I should add, for those that advocate "net carbs," look at the nutrition facts label. It lists carbs, and fiber, sugar, sugar alcohols, etc as a subcategory under carbs.
Nutrition facts labels do not, and cannot, list net carbs. Just carbs. The only place you will see "net carbs" listed is on the front of the wrapper or box. It's advertising hype. Marketing. It's intended to prey upon those looking for low carb options, but trying to have their cake, and eat it too. Literally.

Thank you for posting about your experience with carbs. I've never bought into the net carb or even the healthy carb thing. To me they're all carbs and I'm playing with fire when I over indulge. Maybe I'm different, but somehow I doubt it.
While I've never had the benefit of seeing how my blood sugar is affected, I know all too well what it feels like to have my brain light up and start the endless search for food. Apple pie or apples - too much of either and I'm in trouble, so I consider all carb sources to be foods that must be carefully monitored. It's so easy to get sucked into the hype, especially for those of us who are looking for reasons to eat more of those tasty carbs.

We were masters at rationalizing, weren't we? From "apple pie has apples, it's health food," to "the clothes dryer shrunk my pants again," we could fool ourselves into obesity.
Trying to stop actively participating in our own demise is a full time job.

Sometimes I like to pretend steel cut oats are good for me. I think they're probably good for normies but at the end of the day for this Bariatric patient, if I combined those oats with 100 extra 'healthy' (or otherwise) carbs, I'm jonesin' for more ....
