I had surgery 6 years ago....
HUGS... please get help. Getting to a doc and admitting you have a problem may be a first step. Looking up your local AA meetings may help also.
alcohol can affect some of us way worse than before. I simply rather not have a drink than to have just one. Some days I can't stop at one... and i will drin****il I go to bed... waking up the next morning feeling sick.
I used to have time when I could not have alcohol at home. None. Because I would convince myself that i would have just one glass of wine - but in reality - I would drink 1/2 bottle or more...
Now - I know I can't... When we are out - I may have a small glass of wine with dinner.. maybe...
I get buzzed ...and drink very fast. It is not longer fun... Over the last year - I finally was able to have alcohol at home and not drink it. Even forget it is there...
get help... you may need a inpatient detox clinic. then staying dry - not drinking at all - may be your only option...

totally the best thing I ever did.. I lost a hundred sixty pounds and I've kept it off for 6 years but I'm sad and scared because I think I have a drinking problem my husband divorced me and my mom died of cancer this year and I have been wallowing in alcohol.help me.
find Alcoholics Anonymous online and find a meeting in your area. Get to the first one available and good luck.
Congratulations on taking the first step and admitting you have a problem! Many never make it that far. Next, go here: www.aa.org and put in your zip code to find the NEXT meeting. Then, go to that meeting. Tonight! Don't wait, don't think about it, just get up, put your shoes on and go. You might be drunk, you might be scared, you might think it's the strangest thing ever, but go anyway. You might cry or rant or sit quietly during the meeting. Maybe you talk, maybe you don't. But, afterwards don't leave without getting another woman's phone number, make it a woman who looks like she's been around, and then call her within the next hour or two even if you don't want to. You can get better, you can be strong again - you're worth the effort!! You should be really proud of yourself right now!!

I too had a cross addiction to alcohol. Believe it or not, it was just published in the New England Journal of Medicine that 65% of those that have gastric bypass become alcoholics. Its a cross addiction. When I was in treatment, I lived with 9 other women in a house, 7 were doctors/surgeons that had to be there b/c of medical board made them come to treatment to keep medical license. Out of the 10 of us, 6 had previously had gastric bypass. The alcohol is no longer absorbed in your stomach the way it use to be. It is bypassed and goes directly in your blood stream. This causes you to get drunk really really really fast and also sober lightning fast, but your blood alcohol level is through the roof. Then it leads to blackouts...it only gets work. Get involved with AA. Its a tough battle, but you need to find a new healthy addiction. Not food or alcohol. Good luck.
Sherry, thank you so much for your post. I identify with you...I am divorced and lost my Mom a while ago. I'm a single parent, and my job was eliminated last year..I started drinking to help me cope the change, stress - whatever you want to call it. I found myself 20 pounds heavier and I found myself back at OH.....I am reaching across the aisle in hopes we can help and support each other. I just completed a 5Day Pouch test yesterday to get a jump start on the weight loss, not to mention getting back on track...and I feel so much better. Don't give up...Okay?
I've been thinking about you! I hope you are doing ok and have reached out for help. Please update us (or inbox me) with an update. I'd love to hear more from you!
