Nausea at night

Ok so I am only a few days post op and everything seems to be going great with the exception of last night and tonight I've been waking up with horrible nausea and extremely restless. I get up to walk around, use the restroom, and I tried sipping some water but that seems to just cause hiccups and pain. Tonight has been much worse and does not seem to subside. I'm still on clear liquids and suppose to transition tomorrow. During the day I've been feeling great. Just some mild tenderness that I have been taking tylenol for. I didn't have any nausea at the hospital but I know I was getting reglan and two other meds to help prevent it. Is this normal or has any one else had a similar experience? Any suggestions on what do do? I tried some antacids. I know I have reflux but it has never presented like this.

Make sure you are taking your PPI.  If that does not help your surgeon can prescribe anti-nausea medicine.

I was on zofran and phenergan plus my zantac. Took for an additional week after surgery.

Also - I tend to have nausea when I take my vitamins too close to bedtime so I try to get through earlier in evening.

Vitamins on an empty stomach always cause nausea for me, even after being over 2-years post-op.  This could also be acid reflux that you're getting.

I never had reflux before surgery either.  Mine presented with a dry hacking cough that kept me up all night - who knew?  Zantac didn't even come close to doing anything for it.  You may need a prescription PPI (like Protonix) to control this for the first few months.

Thanks everyone for responding and for the advice. I followed everyones suggestions and have been taking my pepcid as directed. I was able to meet with my surgeon yesterday and he says its probably just residual from the anesthetics effects on my vestibular system (-: It makes sense since I seem to have some vertigo too with the nausea and it has been usually after laying down and then shifting positions. Plus I tried going out on a boat yesterday (5 days post op) not the brightest idea and I got really bad motion sickness which I have never gotten before. Ha ha.....

If you continue to have problems with reflux, you may want to use bed risers to raise the headboard end of the bed. My dad had to do that.
