1. I started walking immediately after the surgery & still walk 2-3 miles per day. 2. I was cleared for a gym at 6 weeks. 3. As above, I walk at least 2 miles a day - usually 3. I work with weights - Joyce Vedral's "Fat Burning Workout" and I also use "The Firm" 4. No to Curves - that's great for starters, though. P~ "Life is too short to wear sensible shoes"! "WWCHD?"

My surgeon doesn't cut the abdominal muscle during surgery but retracts it, so we don't have to wait as long as those who have muscles healing from surgery. I was given clearance 4 weeks after to start heavy exercising. I was doing walking and bicycling before then. I was told that he didn't cut the abdominal muscle and I wouldn't be able to do a sit up if he had - so I tried it at 2 weeks out, and I could do it, so it was light workouts after that and I could go swimming for water aerobics when my incision healed - also about 4 weeks. I didn't have any external stitches to worry about. I used to go to Curves, but have exercise equipment at home I use, but good idea on the trial memberships - find what works for you. I waited the full 6 weeks before doing anything with weights. Walking seems to be the best and the walk away the pounds videos are great too.

I think a lot of it has to do if it is lap or open. I had a lap RNY on 11/16 and was on the treadmill for 15 minutes slow on the second day after. (They want us up walking 15-30 minutes/day) I'm now getting in 30 minutes a day at around 2.3 mph. I have no weight restrictions, just to rest if I get tired. We went out shopping Friday and today for about 4 hours each - which pretty much tired me out both days. Best wishes for your upcoming surgery!

Hi, Matthew. 4 hours of shopping would pretty much tire anyone out. Good for you. It looks like you aren't letting surgery slow you down. You're only ten days out. That's really encouraging to me, because I want to be able to return to normal and start exercising (which hasn't been normal for me lately). Thanks for your best wishes. I'll be joining you on the losing side pretty soon now. Karen
