I thought I would miss pizza and Big Macs.. but I don't miss them at all.. the only thing I think, "gee I wish I could have..." is root beer... full flavored, full sugar root beer (there is no substitue in my book) but it is a small price to pay for having the weight come off.... brianna

How ironic that you placed this post and your answer. I just found out yesterday that I'm approved and will have surgery 12/7/05 and I was thinking how would I handle no more occasional milkshakes. I will put this with my recipes.. Thanks. Teru

Chocolate!!! I now eat sugar free Godiva when the craving**** and it works just as well. I also missed fruit punch, but I just discovered Clear Fruit lite, and their fruit punch tastes just like regular fruit punch. Yum!

Good Morning all, I dreaded giving up my Diet Sierra Mist. Didn't think I was gonna live through the 1st few weeks after surgery without it. Know what? I don't even have a desire for any pop at all. I love my Crystal Lite Peach Tea and drink that by the gallons. It's still funny to me because before surgery, i'd drink at least 4 to 6 cans of it. Have a great day all.... I also have not really given up anything except Corn. Corn and me do not agree. It tears my digestive track up. I had to give up milk for awhile but now I can drink it in small amounts. I still eat anything I want just in moderation. My nut and my doc do not believe in the low-carb, anti-caffeine, anti-soda mentality after surgery. It's just about knowing your limits. I find that if I let myself indulge occassionally, I loose that craving and I'm satisfied. I still pick healthy choices when dining out though. Jane

Before surgery, I loved diet pop (soda). I have stayed away from it for 21 months now. I took a sip of my son's diet coke the other day and Yuch! It tasted awful to me. I also thought I'd miss pizza. It was one of my favorite foods. I can eat one small slice of thin crust now. I still only eat it on rare occasions. When I really crave it, I will make a pita pizza. I put some pizza sauce on a small pita, add some cheese and pizza spice and pop it in the toaster oven. I think it's yummy. Have a great weekend. Linda

For me it was pizza. It was my favorite food. Other than ones with anchovies, I rarely met a pizza I didn't like. I have seen a few recipes for crustless pizza or some other variations that I may eventually try. I'm just post-op 3 days, so will be on liquids for two weeks. Other than that, my only real sweet tooth craving was pecan pie. But I guess I can do away with that. Has anyone been able to have a few of the roasted pecans at a time? I would think that would give me a lot of the same flavor I liked.

Before surgery, I had a super sweet tooth. Now that I am still eating pureed foods, I miss some things like chocolate chip cookies and vanilla coke. But, I had a sip of my boyfriend's soda the other night (I know bad!!) and the taste wasn't even the same to me. The hardest part right now is trying to eat pureed , while everyone else is eating whole foods. I just keep telling myself one and a half weeks left. And by Christmas, I will be on whole foods altogether!!

Honestly, I figured that after 39 years of eating whatever I wanted and always wanting what I couldn't have "to be thin and feel NORMAL" I wasn't stressed about what I might not be able to eat. That being said, I think the only thing I have missed enough to crave is fresh baked bread. I have satisfied that by making whole grain bread and toasting the shnot out of it! hehe Even that I have only had 2 or 3 times since surgery and that is enough to satisfy my craving for it. I find there isn't anything I can't do without. I just have to keep keeping my eyes on the prize: a size 12 pair of jeans! lol "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels." I want to be able to say that and really BE there! Not even close yet, but I definitely FEEL and look better than I did for at least the last 3 or 4 years. Blessings...
