Feeling discouraged/concerned

hello everyone. Today I am exactly 3 weeks post op. I have been on the pured food stage for a week, and I'm feeling great. I've also been back at college for a week and have been active walking to and from classes. I have energy and am getting all my vitamins, protien, and goals in. Today however I did my weekly weigh in and my weight is the same as last week! What is going on!? I know the first month is when it is supposed to come off fast, so why has mine stalled already. Especially when I am eating so little! 9 tablespoons a day!? I had a weak moment and even cried and snapped at my boyfriend who was just trying to be supportive this morning :(. I was so frustrated. Sometimes I am so miserable just eating the 3 tablespoons when everyone around me is eating full meals and what not, but I keep telling myself it's worth it because I'm going to be healthier, but then I get on the scale and there is nothing to be shown! Is this normal? Or should I be concerned and call my doctor?

Thank you!

Brandi

It is very common to not lose weight in the third week - search for "Week 3 Stall" or something similar on this site and you will see plenty of people before you that have had the same experience.

Unfortunately, we will never take the weight off as quickly as we want. Even if it is gone in a day, that wouldn't be fast enough for most of us. Just be patient and trust the process. You will mostly likely NOT lose weight every single week... but if you're following the plan, you will be fine.

Also, it's normal to be emotional. You no longer have food for comfort, you just had major surgery, and you are vulnerable. Try not to be too hard on the BF :)

Please search "3 week stall" and take heart -- you like THOUSANDS of others are in the very normal stage of the 3rd week.

The 3 week stall is very real,  and scary.  I promise you that if you stick to plan the loss will restart and you will lose again.  Only reason I didn't totally freak out when mine happened was because I had read it here,  and I still kinda freaked out.

Also want to add that I'm 5.5 months since surgery and just broke a 9 day stall. It's nerve wracking every time,  but I know I'm eating to plan so the loss will continue.  Just try to be patient.

There is a chemical explanation for that and it has to do with the way the body changes.  It is normal and nothing to worry about.

Thank you for posting this. I'm only 4 days out, but now I am aware and hopefully will handle it better than I would otherwise. You're doing great so far- keep it up!

Many of us avoid the problem and weigh only once a wee****il closer to maintenance - there is a lot of variabilty in the body and the scale shortly after surgery.

The stalls are very real and normal. Please don't be hard on yourself or your support system. Remember this is a change for them to. I was very hard on my husband after surgery.  My husband is 400 pounds and still is. Wls is not for him and it was for me.  To this day even with my gastroparesis he cooks the right foods for me. He supports me. We all need this continuing support to continue with this wls path. You can do it. It will continue to come :-)
