NSAIDS

Are you taking NSAIDS and, if so, how far out were you when you could start taking them again? Tylenol might have been sufficient, usually, if I hadn't have fallen (not surgery related) and damaged my legs pretty badly.  I twisted both knees (one which was replaced just 7 months ago) and sprained my ankle.  I sailed down a flight of stairs which had been rained on and apparently was slippery.  As I came down the steps, one leg went under me and slammed against the edge of each step in the same spot. The bruising appeared a few days later, but redness, swelling and PAIN showed up a day or two after the fall.  The redness has spread and I'm on two different antibiotics to combat that.  They started to prescribe NSAIDS, but I knew it was way too early for those.  I know what my doctor has told me of how long it will be until I can take them again, but I was curious as to what others might have been told.

I've been robbed! My grandbaby stole my heart!  She just raised her hands and I surrendered.

I treat injuries with cortisone, both injected and pills.  Also have good results with Tramdol and Vicodin.  Are using heat, ice, compression and elevation?  Biofreeze is also good.

I iced it originally for several days. When I went to my doctor (saw the NP), she said heat and elevate. I've been doing that for about 3 days now. I do have some Tramadol and they did prescribe Norco. It's kind of looking like cellulitis, from pictures I've seen, and I've read that after surgery, one can be susceptible to that, especially with an injury. I am going back to see the doctor, next time, on Tuesday. I'm doing everything I know to get this thing well, but it is one of the most painful injuries I can remember getting in a long time.

Cellulitis can be very dangerous.  My boss was hospitalized for 3 weeks with it a few years ago. Turned out to be MRSA. Nasty business. I will say a prayer for you.

If you're think cellulitis, yes get to the doctor tomorrow! It can get nasty, painful, and damaging quickly. You don't want to end up in the hospital on iv antibiotics.

Lortab or Vicodin are the only heavy-duty things I take.  Hope you feel better soon.

I was told NEVER for NSAIDS

I was told never for NSAIDs, but that Tylenol sometimes (very rarely) was acceptable, as acetaminophen is not an NSAID.  I was told to severely limit it and not take it frequently.  Acetaminophen generally is regarded as not causing the same damage to the stomach lining as NSAIDs.  Having said that, there was a study I read where 17% of a group with liver failure and damage from Acetaminophen were bariatric patients, which is a very high correlation.  So, there (may?) be an issue there for us regarding tylenol, etc, though I don't know for certain.  I would defer to your surgeon for advice.

I expect for my knee replacement I will be on narcotics, blah.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
