Decisions, decisions...

My PCP is also a friend. One day last Feb. 2015, he first brought up WLS to me as an alternative to diets and to aid me with my diabetes. I had never considered it for my problem. He made a compelling argument for it, and I signed up for the seminar. I attended it in March 2015.

At the next appt. I had with my PCP after the seminar to let him know my decision. I said I decided to have RNY. He just kept looking at me like he was waiting for me to say something else.

"I'm happy you've chosen this surgery" he said. "But you've still made an incomplete decision". I was confused, so he said "go home and consider these TWO things:" 1."Do you wish to have the surgery to alter your body's ability to absorb calories and nutrients?" and 2. "Are you informed on what this new lifestyle will require of you, and are you ready to follow it?" He then sent me home to think about everything he'd said. I considered his words deeply.

This was the key to my having such a great experience with my RNY. I'm still only 5 months in, but I LOVE this stuff!! I have stuff to learn about transitioning from honeymoon. The energy level is going up, I'm never hungry, I am starting to jog/walk, instead of just walk.

I just was diagnosed with "meralgia paresthetica". It really hurts my upper thigh. I don't let it bring me down. My orthopedic surgeon just put a 4 month delay on all of his surgeries. It doesn't even bother me because life is so great now! I am an UMPIRE now! My life was pretty good before the surgery. But now, I'm a much bigger part of the life that goes on around me. My golf game is much better!

Thank you Mentors! You've been beyond patient with me. I feel like it's a new day.

All sounds good! My son was an Umpire and that is no easy job, especially behind the plate... So yay for NSVs! I don't know if we ever really know what we are getting ourselves into with this but it is great. I know for me being able to run up the stairs in my house never gets old.

I can take stairs two at a time again. It's weird how many things that I FORGOT about doing that are so great to do now.

Like, I don't HAVE to rent a cart anymore, I can walk the course again. I don't know what kept me from wanting a solution to my weight sooner.

I talked about WLS with my husband for years before I took the plunge. I have an issue with motivation and procrastination that I'm working on with my therapist. As of today, I've lost 100lbs and I feel like a new person. I'm still working on changing my habits, but I know I will never go back to how I was.

There are few decisions I have made that I would rank higher than deciding to have RNY, and they involve the birth of my children.

Cool..

Not sure why, maybe because I was just cooking it..but I wanted to answer your post with just: "...bacon....hmmm..bacon...everything is better with bacon.. Or butter... "

Have fun...

I've yet to have bacon. I'm waiting until 18 months out, so I've awhile to go. I made the family pancakes and bacon this morning. It's so funny you'd say that to me today, because I wanted the leftover piece, and just as my son snatched it off of the plate I almost ate the paper towel it was on.

Your advice is invaluable to me Hala. I'm glad you're a friend.

So WHY are you denying yourself BACON??? Excellent source of protein, and with your RNY you're malabsorbing about one-third of the fat you eat. Have some bacon! (But don't eat the paper towel, LOL!)

As Me Batt said : eat the bacon, not too much... But one slice of nice crispy bacon is great. (watch for nausea)

Just skip the pancake or make it good for you... (like using cottage cheese - not low fat) ..

BTW - pork rinds are a great snack. Even now - one serving is plenty, and it is great to satisfy my desire for crunchy things. And the nutritional values are better than in cheese...

I learned a bit late that too low fat is really not good for me.  Too much fat still makes me ill, but I add butter to my veggies, or even my steak.. ..  But then I don't eat steak every day...
