What was the weirdest, strangest, desperate thing you tried to lose weight?

Looking back, it's a wonder the dieting didn't kill us all.

WOW, truer words were never typed!

So many over the years.

I remember taking some of my Mom's Dexatrim pills when I was a kid, going on an "exchange diet" as a kid, doing the "Mayo Clinic" diet with my Mom and Dad (not really from Mayo) which consisted of eating 3 eggs for breakfast, lunch and dinner the first few days to prime you for the diet. I did my own very low calorie diet (no breakfast, milk carton at lunch and 1/2 can tuna, 1/2 can green beans and one tangerine for dinner along with excessive exercise) in high school - yeah, I pretty much was anorexic. I used to teach (and follow) a variation of Richard Simons "Deal a Meal" in the 80's when I was a Health Educator. I've done South Beach and Medifast. Lost 100 lbs. with Medifast but quickly gained it back.

When I was purging and downsizing I had so many diet books I could have retired if I could have sold them.  I took a photo, let me see if I can find it.

I tried the liquid protein many years ago and agree it was vile.  In fact, if I could think of something worse than vile - that would be it.  I tried the regular flavor and one that was supposed to be orange flavored, gag don't know which was worse.  Like drinking slime.

I remember standing over the kitchen counter holding my nose trying to gag it down.

So around 1963/1964, my mom started going to this diet doctor who gave out the most amazing pills. It was a kind of daily ****tail, the pills came in little teeny envelopes, and you shook out one of each.  At least one of them was a strong amphetamine of some sort, in retrospect.  And of course he happily took me as a patient too. I was age 13/14. I bet I took a total of 5-6 pills a day, maybe more, different colors and shapes. SO hopped up behind those, both of us!  It must have been a pretty crazy household, a tiny 3-bedroom house with 2 parents and four kids, with two people totally buzzed. I don't remember that either one of us lost much weight, but what I do remember is how drag-ass I felt after I stopped taking them.  My high school had lots of stairs, and I could barely climb them.  Crazy days.

Diet pills from Mexico, which had failed FDA regulations and were banned here in the US. Norex, Redotex and I forget the other one. And remember the OG Metabolife, which ended up containing crystal meth, I believe it was!!!? Yeah, reeeeaaallllly dangerous stuff! Desperation fo reeeaaalz!! Stupidity as well! I recall being so freakin high out of my mind off of half a Metabolife tablet that I just couldn't sit still! My bf at the time finally literally grabbed me by the shoulders, shook me, and yelled at me "What the Fu $# are you on!?" I didn't want him to know I was"cheating" at losing weight and insisted I wasn't on anything. Of course, he knew I was! Smh so happy those days are long behind me! And here's an interesting article worth reading:
