Activity after laparoscopic gallbladder removal

Hi everyone,

I have another question about gallbladder surgery.  I was rescheduled to April 1st.  My surgeon said I'd need to recover for a long weekend, and then I'd be fine.  Which I'm sure will be true for "normal" activity, but I am planning on running a 5K 3 weeks later, on April 23.  For those of you who have had it done laparoscopically, do you think this would be enough time afterwards to run the race?  It seems like it should be.

Thanks!

Ask your surgeon.  Yes, you would be fine to go back to work after a long weekend.  I did when I had my gallbladder out.  But remember when you had VSG?  How long were you off after that? I think that running (not walking but running) a 5K three weeks after abdominal surgery is not a wise idea.

Thanks.  His office told me to expect to take it easy for two or three days, and then be off all restrictions by 2 weeks.  I'm definitely going to ask him about it when I see him next, but for now I was wondering if I should sign up for the early bird registration, or wait it out.  It might be better to hold off and see how it goes.

You could always sign up early and then just walk it if that's the doc's medical advice -- if that wouldn't offend your competitive spirit   I have plenty of family members who wouldn't be able to handle that - lol!

Since I had to do the run/walk mix with my first 5K, I really wanted to try and fully run during this one.  But I think I'd rather just walk than miss it all together.  Then again, I was planning on doing this with my brother, and you know how it gets when brothers start to do anything together...

I agree with Tracy D, sign up & see how it goes. Of course get your Drs approval, but see how you'll feel first. During those couple of weeks b4 running, you'll be resting & then whammo a race? Hmmm, maybe you can ride one of those hoverboard thingies during the race. LOL

Hey, I could really look like I was moving when it catches fire!

And it's a Superhero 5K, so maybe I could look like I was flying!

I agree with Tracey. You never know how your body is going to feel after a surgery. I am sure you will be fine to go back to work.

You have done an amazing job losing the weight. I know it is hard to think of not being able to do something that you have your heart set on I am sure. You do need to give your body rest if it needs it.

Thanks.  If I have to, I'll set it out, but this one should be pretty fun.  It's a superhero race, and that's why I want to do it so bad.  But I want to make sure I don't do something stupid even more.  I'll definitely be following the doctor's orders.

It's the damn mom in me. I know you will listen to your doctor. That is pretty cool the super hero run.
