the plateau too early

I'm one month post op. I weighed myself after the surgery at 353 lbs and now I'm down to 315. Yes I know that is great loss, but the problem is that I've been the same weight for two weeks straight. On the clear liquid diet, I dropped quickly. Now, I'm stuck. I feel like I did something wrong or stretch my pouch. How do i know if i did? Is this normal. Help please

Well, you lost almost twice as much in your first month as I did. There is absolutely no way you were going to maintain that pace. If you're bothered by losing 38 pounds in a month, you should get rid of your scale. Before you know it, you'll be doing well to lose 15 in one month, and then 10.

You're doing fine. You haven't stretched anything.

No need to be paranoid if you are sticking to a good plan.

Holy **** you've lost a ton! I lost like 10 pounds in the first month. I was legitimately freaking out. I think you're fine and just easing into things congrats on what you've done so far!

I never lost a lot in a month either - I figured that at 57, everything takes more time than before.  But, I kept following directions, and over a year later and 122 pound down, I am loving my size 6 pants!!

Akelly,

I am writing this for others who may have the same thoughts - your responses indicate that you are seeing your experience in the expected range. Good Luck to you!!

Truly, focus on compliance and following directions, and the scale will take care of itself.  A stall is 4 or more weeks of no change.  You are likely just experiencing normal variability.  It sucks, we all want a straight bee line to our goal weight, but we need to develop a new respect for our bodies. Those lost pounds are in the bank and they will catch up.

I only lost 10-15ish pounds a month, even at the beginning.  It took about 6 months for me to lose 70 pounds.  Many people lose that in 2 months.  But at 13 months post-surgery, I am 122 pounds down and at my goal weight for 2 months now.  The long term is the name of the game, even though that concept may be hard to accept soon after surgery.

There are many factors that impact speed of weight loss even for people who are 100% complaint.  This doctor has a good explanation - he was not my doctor, but he makes a lot of sense to me.

Thanks everyone for responding. I feel a bit silly for worrying.

Don't feel silly.  This was all new for us, and we all felt worried at some point.  But you're doing the right thing by reaching out to the experts here on this forum.  You'll break through in no time.  Just keep working!
