How's your little diet going?

When I told my parents (they're in their 70's) that I was having WLS, they were concerned but supportive. So I've been talking about it to my Mum to give her lots of opportunity to ask questions. Today she says "How's your little diet going?" It was all I could do not to laugh. I don't think she understands but that's ok.

At least they desire to be supportive even if they don't understand...

That made me laugh- there are those that really don't understand, but I'm glad you can talk to them about it!! My parents are the same: supportive, but concerned.

This reminds me of my ex-bff's first comment to me post-WLS.  He didn't comment on my weight loss until I'd lost around 100 pounds and then the only thing he's ever said was, "glad the surgery's working for you."

This is not the only reason he's my ex-bff, but it certainly plays a part.

My sweet hubby is much older than I am (28 years older).  Same thing here . . supportive but didn't understand . . . .until I shared every and all reading material on VSG (along with diagrams) . . . . .Now, it's so wonderful how we're on this journey together . . . He understands why I do not choose certain foods, why I make the choices I do make, and I feel neither deprived or craving anything.  The added bonus is not hearing the words "Can you have this?" . . . as he knows protein first, then veg . . . . and no water or non-caloric bev while eating . . . .

The key for us was reading material.

I would have just answered, "Great. Thanks for asking!!" and stopped at that. If she had any real questions, I would answer but I would not force them to talk about your weight loss or surgery of they do not want to. It sounds like they are nervous for you and do not really know what to say.
