Since the day after surgery I have suffered with horrible diarrhea.  At my 4 day post-op appointment my doc suggested a remedy.  It slowed things down but didn't stop it.  Finally today, 8 days pre-op, no more diarrhea!

Now that this problem is resolved I know I have a new problem of the opposite kind on the horizon.  Before surgery the nurse at my center told me that after surgery I should start taking a daily dose of Miralax.

My doc said as long as I had diarrhea I should not begin the Miralax.  Now that its resolved do I start the Miralax today or tomorrow?  I know this is one of those smh questions, I apologize for asking.  I just don't want to screw up anything and value the opinion of the members of OH.

Either day would be fine.  Post this on the RNY forum to reach out to those that had the same surgery as you.  Good Luck

Were you on liquids during the time of diarrhea?  It's common to have "liquid in, liquid out."

I, personally, would wait to start taking Miralax until you don't poop one day.  For me, I'm regular and poop every morning.  I take 1/2 dose of Miralax every day and I up it to a full dose if I don't poop in the morning.  But you've got to find what will work best for your system.  If you're still in the transition diet phases, this might be challenging.

I was on total liquids for 2 weeks PO and was told liquids in = liquids out. Once I went on more solid foods it eased.

I have not taken Miralax at all. I have days when I don't go, but then there are days when I do go. It all depends on what you are putting into your pouch. Just remember your not going to have as much waste because you are not eating as much as pre-op. Learn your body, and if you get too worried I would consult your Dr. You should be fine, my body is finally leveling out after 14 months.
