Intake Goals
i know stuff like this has been posted before so I apologize for the redundancy. I'm looking for guidelines on what I should be taking in every day. I'm almost 3 months post rny. Its gone really well (down almost 90 lbs from my high weight, which was 3 weeks before surgery) but I feel I should be eating more solid foods in order to prepare my body for life long healthy habits. im still in "weight loss" mode but want to motivate myself to eat (and eat smartly).
I'm trying to figure out how many calories, carbs, etc....I should be shooting for. From quick research I'm at this starting point (Im a 233 pound male):
less than 1200 calories per day
less than 150 carbs per day
less than 35 grams of sugar per day
more than 60 grams of protein per day
does that sound reasonable? Crazy? I'd really appreciate input on this so I can change my plan.
At less than 3 months postop, your number are high, except protein, which is really low.
60 grams of protein is an absolute minimum. As 6'3" male, I always had at least double that while I was losing. I regularly hit close to 200 grams per day.
I never exceeded 1,000 calories while losing. For my height and size, that worked for me. Shorter folks should be a lot less, especially at 3 months. Most seem to be in the 700-800 range.
35 grams of sugar is a lot. The only sugar I got at all was from milk when I was doing protein shakes. 150 grams of carbs is an awful lot too. I don't get that much now, and that's maintaining at about 2400 calories.
Cut back as much as you can. You shouldn't be eating much at all right now that isn't all about the protein. Get the weight off.
6'3" tall, male.
Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.
