I very rarely do hot chocolate because of grams of sugar, but when I do I mix it with water to keep the sugar low.  I also use SF Swiss Miss and it satisfies me and I don't dump.   Calories are pretty minimal too.

Since giving up coffee, I have also been trying to give up artificial sweeteners and sugar substitutes.  It's been more challenging than I anticipated.

Nobody this far out needs to be drinking their protein ...  especially if they want to lose weight.

When are we going to acknowledge that protein is not some sort of superfood or miracle diet food and its addition efinitely does not negate the calories that accompany it, whether it's in a hot chocolate drink or a franken cookie.

An extra 300 calories a day will result in gaining about 1/2 pound a week or 26 pounds in a year.

I also do the Swiss Miss 25 calorie chocolate when the urge hits. It is easy to eat 25 less calories from something else or even eliminate 50 so you can have two servings but with 300 extra calories, even with protein I'd be gaining. Good luck trying out other ways to fill your craving.

Drinking calories will kill you. I've weaned down from giganti****d lattes to a 70 calorie double shot espresso  light a day. It's the only calories I'm drinking now.

Everyone is different, but, for me, 10 grams of protein from a liquid with sugar in it doesn't keep me satisfied very long and spurs cravings for carb filled junk.  It also causes my blood sugar to crash.  I find getting 10 grams of protein from a denser source is way more satisfying, doesn't make me crave more junk and keeps my blood sugar more stable which equates into me being less hungry.  That's a win, win for me because I was a carb junkie and have to keep that in check in order to keep the pounds off.  I will be 12 years out in January.

Wintertime has set in and so has my desire to have hot chocolate since I can't have coffee (causes my pouch to be VERY unhappy).  I have been sipping on a protein powder based hot chocolate mix that contains 4 grams of sugar, 10 grams of protein,  and is about 100 calories per serving.  I have been averaging 2-3 servings a day.  This last week, I have noticed that my non-caloric drinking has slightly decreased, but my "hot chocolate" drinking has been increased, with me substituting a serving of hot chocolate for a serving of non-caloric fluid.

So my question is this: Is this a good thing or bad thing? My protein intake has increased by 30 grams a day so that should justify it right??? And the hot chocolate is water based so I am taking in water.

Thanks for your advice!

What we think about this isn't all that important.

Do YOU think this is good or bad, and why?

I think it is horrible because I am drinking instead of eating my calories.  My big motivator for drinking is two-fold. Ever since surgery I have been FREEZING all year round. Wintertime is obviously worse and the only time I seem to warm up is when I am drinking or eating.  Crazy I know.  I do have anemia as a result of the surgery but have it under control with medication.  Secondly, sometimes I have trouble with the flavor of plain water, even after it has been through the filter or is bottled.
