Does anyone know about snapping turtles? We have a 6 foot wooden fence and I dont know how the big ole thing got in the backyard. Well, my dog ran up to it wanting to play and it bit her nose. Luckily it just tore some skin off the inside of her nose and nothing else. I looked over at her and she was bleeding I stopped the bleeding but do you think I need to have her get shots or something? I dont know if turtles get rabies or what not. I am calling the vet tomorrow but she is fine now and eating, drinking, playing so I think she got lucky!! Thanks Shannon

If you've stopped the bleeding I'm sure the dog will be fine. We used to play with turtles all the time when we were kids ...we never had any trouble. Leslie

AWWWWWWW Poor baby!! I bet that hurt!! I don't think it will need shots, but you can check with your vet in the morning. I was a vet assistant back in the 70's, and don't think it will be a problem! Seems fine now! Cherie (trouble-maker)

Hi Shannon, If it were me, I'd call my vet in the morning. I'm sure you dog is fine but I'd call just to be sure. My dogs are my kids! I don't have any (yet) and I BABY them. If my oldest sneezes wrong, I call my vet. LOL. Best wishes! Kim D.

hi no reptiles like snapping turtles can not get or carry rabies. if you are still unsure go to askjeeves.com and put in the question can snapping turtles get rabies. hope this helps. you can put neosproin on your dogs nose and if he is showing signs of pain he can get one regular aspirin not tylenol or anything like that just aspirin every 8-12 hours. hope this helps. Surely your dogs have been vaccinated againt rabies! But no, reptiles don't get/carry it. Poor baby! One of mine got stung by a wasp on the edge of her nose---it literally stung OFF a bit of it!

Shannon: Some reptiles and amphibians can carry salmonella. I don't know if dogs are susceptible to this but I would take mine to the vet - better safe than sorry. Hope this helps. Tonya

ouchie poor baby. I dont know about rabies because we dont get that in australia but I have a tiny little poodle and over here we get some real big lizards. Well my little one thinks she is huge and she attacked a lizard about 3 times her size and they both bit one another. She screamed and cried like nothing I had heard of. She didnt get sick but was very sorry for a few days. lol hugs from down under Helen
