Sleeve

I've never heard of anyone with a Sleeve getting and STAYING too thin. Excess weight loss is a complication that happens to roughly ONE PER CENT of WLS patients, and primarily to those who have a malabsorptive procedure, like the RNY/gastric bypass and the DS.

You are probably worried about the wrong thing - regain is the more likely problem.

How low is your BMI?  I am really getting the sense from your posts that you may not really be a candidate for surgery at all.

I'm chuckling because there's a tried-and-true way to stop the weight loss before you get to "too skinny" (almost impossible for most of us)...and that's to increase your calories and carbs.  Easy-peasy.  The rare person who does struggle to stop losing weight usually is battling other complications.

You can see my weight stats in my signature line.  I can tell you at 2-1/2 years out that I wish it was a struggle to keep the weight on....it's not.  For most everyone it's a daily challenge in maintenance to maintain the good habits you learned during weight loss mode so the weight stays off.

Many, many people on here tell stories of never even getting to their goal weight because they put themselves into maintenance early by increasing calories and carbs.  So I think you're worrying over something that won't happen.

The VSG is actually an ideal WLS for lower BMI patients.

Here are some truths about the VSG.....

  • It is NOT a standardized procedure and not all sleeves are created equal and the results tend to reflect that.
  • Most people don't lose all the desired excess weight with the average being 50-60% EWL
  • Individual surgeon statistics tend to be a key factor on WL and maintenance going into it. Match yours goals with the surgeons stats as a starting point and than it is up to you to conform.

With any WLS it is ultimately up to the individual to get out of it what you put into it.

I like my sleeve, it was like having my stomach re-sized to my needs.

I had a surgeon that has a very high success rate with the VSG over the last 15 years and makes a sleeve that is on the smaller side and I still have to watch it and stay committed or I can gain weight and get fat again.

It would be very hard to be one of the very few that lose to much weight and normally those people have another related or non-related issue in the mix.

I believe there is a lightweight forum on this site.

Hope this helps !

My surgeon wouldn't even consider lapband, too many complications. I had the sleeve on 12/2015 and I LOVE the new me. Yes, I would do it again. Best decision I ever made to get my life back. Good luck with your decision. Come join us on the Sleeve Forum. Christine
