Calorie intake
Just curious what everyones daily calorie intake is? I'm post op almost 3 weeks and trying to decide if I am eating too much or too little. When I drink protein shakes sometimes I hit 1000 calories but on other days I barely reach 500. Just wondering what normal is?

My center is not concerned with calories. Instead, we are instructed to concentrate on getting a minimum of 60-80 grams of protein, 60 being the minimum.

I don't know why programs tell their patients to ignore calories. It makes me pretty angry. CALORIES MATTER.
You need vitamins, you need protein, and you need a little fat. Your body cannot manufacture those essentials, so we must eat them.
But calories? We have lots of calories stored as fat. If you have 100 pounds to lose, you have about 350,000 calories stored in excess fat. Every calorie you eat means one less calorie you'll get rid of.
Keep the calories as low as you can while you're in these early stages. You'll be really, really thankful you did when things get harder in 6 months or a year, at best. And they will get harder. Much harder.

Lots of people follow bad directions and get poor results. I've seen it many times.
You can't have good results without a good plan. The nutritional plans from many programs are aimed first at satisfactory healing, and secondarily at a mediocre 50-60% excess weight loss. I don't think most people would be satisfied with that.
Following guidelines for recovery and healing are great. Following poor guidelines for nutrition and weight loss is foolhardy.
