NSV - 5K
I posted this in the Christmas Card thread, but what the hell. I'm pretty proud of myself.
I have never run any sort of race in my life. I think the last time I ran was when I did field day in 3rd grade. And did pretty horrible.
A few weeks ago, I got this notion that I wanted to try and run a 5K. So I've tried to squeeze in as much training as I could, and last Saturday was the big day. It was the Flint YMCA 5K Santa Run/Walk. We were all dressed up in Santa outfits, and they had milk and cookies at a couple of points during the race (happy to say, I resisted the milk and cookies and kept moving right on by).
Now I'll admit, I wasn't able to actually run the whole thing, but when I had to do some walking, I did make sure I kept up a pretty fast pace. I had a playlist of 140 BPM songs that kept me moving pretty well. I finished with a time of 37:24, which I was happy with for my first run.
This was also huge for me, because I've always had a bad knee, and I didn't know how it was going to respond, even with losing all of my weight. Fortunately, the knee was a little stiff afterwards but not bad at all.
Here's me with Santa's Little Helper (my daughter)
Here's me at the starting line:
And me afterwards, way too excited for the medal:
