100 lbs!!!!!!!!!!
This morning I stepped on the scale and have officially reached 100 pounds lost since I began at my highest. It has been 5 1/2 months since surgery, and almost 8 months since I put my foot down and decided that I needed to choose life. 100 pounds later and I feel better than I've felt in decades. It is one of those things where you don't realize just how crappy you feel until you don't feel crappy anymore. I have energy to burn now. I ride my bicycle a minimum of 50 miles per week, go to the gym for strength training 2-3 times per week, and now almost always choose to take the stairs instead of the elevator or purposely park at the far end of the parking lot to add to my walk. I have just 11 pounds to go to be at what my doctor says is my "ideal." I know I will get there very soon, perhaps even by the end of the year. I will be 6' and 195lbs, with more than the minimum healthy lean muscle mass. In other words, a "normal" healthy adult male.
My chronic back problems are greatly minimized, my sleep apnea is gone, my cholesterol numbers are so good that I have been off my statin for a couple of months now, my blood pressure is perfect and I no longer need those meds, and my insulin use (I am juvenile diabetic and will always need insulin) is less than half of what it once was. I love buying new clothes and overall, just feel like a million bucks.
I have definitely put in my share of the work getting here, but I also believe to he bottom of my heart that this surgery saved my life. As surely as if the surgeon had excised a dangerous tumor, he has added decades to my life and increased its quality immeasurably.
I am thankful for my entire team, including you all here on this message board. You have been a tremendous support and I will continue to rely upon you for years to come. I know that I am just at the start of my healthy life course, but I am 100% determined to NEVER go back to the way I was before.
Congratulations! Way to set an example for us! Thank you for sharing. And Keep Up The Awesome Work!

GREAT JOB. So encouraging!!
I love this statement " It is one of those things where you don't realize just how crappy you feel until you don't feel crappy anymore. I have energy to burn now. I ride my bicycle a minimum of 50 miles per week, go to the gym for strength training 2-3 times per week, and now almost always choose to take the stairs instead of the elevator or purposely park at the far end of the parking lot to add to my walk."
That's the key, changing our mindset and lifestyle!!!
Isn't it fun! I am at 103.2 lbs down... (to be exact, lol) Wish I was as close to my goal as you, but only 46 lbs to go and looking forward to that day. The next big moment will be getting under 200 lbs.
Such simple things excite me now. My wife and I are flying to Phoenix at Christmas to see our daughters... .the thought of not using a seat belt extender gives me that happy dance feeling!
