I know alcohol is not a great choice bc of hidden calories. With the holidays i did have some wine. Im 3 yes out of surgery and was wondering does one glass of wine sometimes make you feel like you went on a drinking binge? I had one glass Thanksgiving night and felt like i had 6 glasses?  Does the amt of food and how long since you ate matter?  Ive had a glass or two before but had recently eaten?  Thanks guys!

I was never really a drinker but would occasionally have one or two if I went out to eat with my friends. After the first one I felt ok, and then I would nurse the 2nd one making sure I ate with it but I always felt fine. Since the surgery I went out with my friends to a steak house. Not only could I not even eat 1/3 of my meal (fish) but a 1/2 glass of beer had me feeling wired! I could not believe how it affected me, I felt bombed and knew I could not drive. SO afterwards I waited around. The good thing is that it passed quickly but it made me realize that alcohol does affect us very quickly after surgery. 1 Beer is too much for me!!!

Yes, this reaction is perfectly normal, especially if you had RNY or DS, for we metabolize the alcohol quickly.  One additional thing I noticed is that I sober up quicker than I used to, so I'm a very cheap to get drunk, but expensive to keep drunk longer than a half hour or so.

I like to drink, but I'm not really into wine, either way it doesn't take long for alcohol to get to my head. In the past b4 wls I'd usually ate something b4 I'd drink, I guess I was able to drink more that way & not have it affect me, but now since my stomach is almost empty when I do drink (very rarely), I follow it with water & something to eat, then I'd have to wait b4 drinking more, alcohol didn't seem to bother me as much that way.

ONE drink leaves me a giddy fool who can barely walk straight. I seem to 'recover' from the effects rather quickly though.

(I'm not a drinker, I may have something 2-3 times a year, or some times not at all.

I can get drank on one glass of wine.. and it seems that I get sober much faster..  In reality - I feel sober much faster but my breath test tells me otherwise... be careful drinking an driving.. if you think you are sober after drinking  - check to make sure..

I do have a glass of wine usually on weekends. I used to be able to drink a whole big bottle of wine and not be plastered. Now I have two glasses I am going to bed.

I notice when I drink wine my weight loss stops.

I am a very cheap date these days.  I used to be able to drink the better part of a large bottle of wine pre surgery before I would get tipsy.  Now, I can't even get through a glass.  I actually dilute the wine now so at least it looks like I am drinking as much as my friends.  One 8 ounce glass will last me an entire evening - and I get a nice buzz from it.  If I attempt to drink it straight, I wind up in bed falling asleep.

Im not a wine drinker.  I had some tequila the other night and quickly knew I could not drive but it didn't wipe me out.

Last night I had some Nyquil though that totally affected me like I drank too much.  The room was spinning and I just wanted to lay down.  I was a little surprised by that.

I limit myself to a little wine now and then..... yes it does give me a slight buzz!  I think being male the reaction is slightly less on me than on a woman, but I would never drive and drink after more than 3 oz of wine.  I am soon going on an all-inclusive to Puerto Vallarta, that is going to be interesting with the alcohol intake.  I want to try some of the ****tails of course.... at least I won't be driving... just hope I don't drown in the pool!!
