Patch MD Calcium
While we are on the topic of Patch MD I have a question about their calcium. This may have been talked about but I haven't seen it.
I suffer from severe constipation which I won't go into but recently my doctor suggested I stop my calcium for a while and see how that affects things.
So far it has made a big difference in combination with 2 cap fulls of Miralax daily. I am going to start back on the calcium slowly to see if that changes anything but I am curious since the Patch MD uses calcium carbonate instead of calcium citrate if it still works for us as far as absorbing it?
My doctor told me that if I have a problem with constipation taking calcium that it won't matter whether I take a pill or us a patch. Anyone have any experience with that?
Not taking calcium isn't an option since I have osteoporosis but if anyone has any suggestions as to a calcium that we can absorb that doesn't cause constipation I would love to hear it.

It's a great question, but I don't know the answer.
I know Lora was one who had problems with stones because of calcium carbonate. She had purged all the carbonate, even from her multi, but later switched to the patch. She could likely tell you more.

As a frequent kidney stoner, I'd also like to know if the calcium being carbonate is a problem.

- I loved the patches!!!! I used them for the fist three months because the reg vit made me slightly sick. I have had no probs with constipation. (I went rafting for 10 days and had to go back on the BariActiv chewables. I stayed on the because they are less expensive for me.
- With the patches, I think the calcium goes right into your blood stream, so if that is how the stones are created, you might still get them. Since they don;t gp through your digestive track I would think the patches are better for constipation.
- Something happened to the multis - they used to say exceeds ASMBS guidelines. For my lasts shipment, someone at the company crossed that line out on the package, with a sharpy!!

The ASBMS guidelines line is gone from their website, too. I wonder what happened.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

I use them from time to time because I rotate vitamins in case I am not absorbing one kind. I have finally gotten into the habit of having 2 vits with each meal. If I haven't - I'll put a patch on.

Maybe ASBMS asked them to stop as it may appear like an andorsement. Just a thought

It's an interesting question. It might be because a couple of things are less than the 200% the ASMBS recommends, or even because several others have much more than the 200%.
I'd like to know.
