Intestines feel like they twist

Hello,

I am 12 years out and everything is great but in the past few years I have developed an Issue where when I am doing something as simple as turning to back up my car, bending over or doing a sit-up I get a very sharp pain and feeling of twisting intestine on my left side.  I am not sure it is related to RNY surgery but it is a very sharp pain that subsides within a few minutes but it is very annoying and I want to make sure it is not serious...I thought it might be a hernia but the dr says no.  Reading the internet, I found one post that suggested it is due to scar tissue of abdominal surgery.  Wondering if anyone else may have had this issue.

Would love to hear from others....I love my new life so of course would live with this issue forever but I want to make sure it is not serious.

thanks for any help or responses!

Hi Pati,

Congratulations on your long termed success. I too am 12 years out and it's hard but I think you will agree so worth it.

Personally I have not had this issue but try seeing a specialist in Bariatrics.  Do you have the option to go back to your surgeon?  He may have some insight.  That being said be sure and stay on top of this. If it's a blockage or anything like that it can be very serious.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing and if you have not done so, post this on the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum (RNY) to reach out to those that had the same procedure as you.

Regards,

Kathy

I have the same issue...will be 12 years out in January. Tenderness LUQ and when I turn, feel like going to get charley horse in stomach or like something is twisting inside. Also have periodic episodes of upper abdominal swelling and pain where tummy is hard and tight.

When I went to the Dr last week, they told me that it was most likely scar tissue from all of my abdominal surgeries....I have had a hysterectomy, gall bladder removal, hernia repair and a tummy tuck....going to have another ultrasound just to make sure next week but doctor said if they tried to repair it, it would most likely make it worse or at least reoccur.  Just have to live with it....but for me, I'd be happy to live with it rather than have the weight back.  It is just good to know that nothing really serious is going on.  She did say that if the pain persisted longer than 15 or 20 minutes then it would be a sign of something different like an obstruction in the bowel but mine never lasts more than a minute or so...
