I'm in the early phases. I have my physical this week. My BMI is 36, I have high cholesterol, GERD and osteoporosis. Anyone else get insurance approval with similar cir****tances?

Good luck on your journey. I hope your ins approves you. Mine did not cover WLS so I had to self pay but it was a very good investment.

It would be very unusual but not impossible for an insurance company to qualify you with 36 BMI and high cholesterol, GERD and osteoporosis. The comorbidities that are usually accepted are

Arthritis
Sleep Apnea
High Blood Pressure
High Cholesterol
Type 2 Diabetes
Venous Stasis Disease (Collection of Blood in the Lower Limbs)
Soft Tissue Infections

With a BMI under 40 two of the above conditions are what is normally considered qualifying.

I think it totally depends on your insurance company. I have BMI over 40, but my comorbidity is only PCOS, and I was approved first round, so it will depend more on the company. Good luck!
