2nd Inguinal Hernia from Weight Gain, Revision needed, Bariatric surgeon should do it?

Hi everyone, I need some help. I just had a massive hernia strangulation from an 8 yr old mesh repair failing which I think failed from my gaining 60 lbs. :( I was able to reduce it back into place after hours of pain.

has anyone here had an inguinal hernia repaired by a bariatric surgeon? Im kinda freaked out by all of the femoral nerves so Im looking for someone *****ally does abdominal wall work but in the lower area.

It was a freaking nightmare . I was finally seen by a general surgeon and admitted from the ER, but my family urged me to consider specialists because this is going to be a revision and the surgeon who saw me is not board certified (if it matters), she also seems to do a host of other non abdominal surgeries (like masectomy etc). So, I left for a second opinion. I really liked her however but I need time to digest things.

I came across a lot of stellar reviews for bariatric surgeons who list hernia services, but do most do hiatal? Is this the right specialist for my condition? Thank you all!

Sorry you are going through all this,,my surgery is dec 7, and my Biatric surgeon will be doing a hernia repair in my stomach along with the bypass,,i think you need to seek advice from a specialist to be safe

I would talk to your Bariatric Surgeon. I know mine does other laproscopic surgeries and does hernia repair. I agree with your family you want to be careful who does it. I don't know what qualifies as a 'specialist' in this area... but at least I would want someone Board certified.

Thank you guys. means a lot to me. I am just hoping that the bariatric surgeons available to me do enough inguinal repairs. Do you guys know if its common?

There is one surgeon I am considering and he literally has pages of positive reviews on this board. The reviews seem to be bariatric baszed, and not hernia based though.

Unfortunately, I need an open incisional repair because my first surgery was laproscopic and it failed. Im told the scar tissue and mesh already being there makes it very hard to do laproscopically again.

I guess when I say specialist I mean someone *****ally only does abdomen area procedures as opposed to someone who does everything- breast removal, anal tumors, bariatric, hernia repairs, gall bladder, thyroid removal, trachea, intestinal tumors, and the list goes on, etc. It sounds like too long of a list. So, Im wondering is it better to use a bariatric surgeon who is board certified in general surgery and seems to only do bariatric, gall bladder, hernias. Like a smaller list of procedures.

most general surgeons do everything. Some even do bariatrics, if they so choose. I finial hernias are very common. A bariatric ism COULD do an in inguinal hernia , but they may choose not to unless they are also doing a bariatric procedure.

Yes, board certified really matters!! Do some research along with your bariatric surgeon's recommedation.

Good luck! Mesh has a history of nightmares. Most of the time it is necessary to use....there are probably others on this site in the medical field that may share an updated material currently used in abdominal surgeries.
