The hospital will provide almost everything you need (toiletries, hospital gown, robe, slip resistant socks, etc). Bring Chapstick, loose fitting clothes to go home in, your pillow (hospital pillows SUCK). You will also use that pillow to brace your incisions on the bumpy car ride home.
You won't feel like doing much other than napping and walking. I brought a bunch of magazines and a book that I never touched.
Im sure it is the same list as Kathy S. linked you to....

I brought more crap than I needed. For me (a 40 year old male, for context), I wish I would have only brought this:
- Small, firm pillow for car ride home to hold against my stomach (DO THIS. I did and it's the most important. If I didn't have this, I probably would not have made it home in the car for the bumps jiggling my insides).
- Hand lotion.
- Chapstick
- Slippers/crocs. Something easy on and easy off.
That's it. I drug an iPad and phone and book and toothpaste and hair gel and deodorant and... you get the point. Not necessary. Loose fitting clothes in/wear them out, too. That's all. Travel light, it's way easier to get home when it doesn't feel like you need a U-Haul. :)
Good luck on your surgery!
These are great suggestions, especially earplugs. I think that a sleep mask is great because the nurses often come in during the night to check on you are your roommates vital signs and they may turn on a light. Sleep is important after surgery so these things help.
