I have bad knees..
I wear a life jacket in the pool or use a noodle and just kick my legs. I can do water aerobics with bad knees as long as I wear a good water shoe. The chair exercise is a great idea. Our local senior citizen center has chair exercise classes every day and many of the attendess are not seniors.

Long before he had his knees replaced my husband was told to bicycle on a recumbent exercise bike. Less strain on the knees than an upright type bike. He also had a small floor unit given to him by PT that required almost no strain to peddle but kept the knees moving. Chair exercises are great. I used to teach them at a spa. I also exercise in the pool due to aches and pains. Keep on working at it you'll get there.
Aqua Arobics. I have bad knees and a botched knee replacement that has left me with 3 cysts growing on my kneecap. I had to deal with my stomach issues before I can have surgery on my knee again. In the meantime, lots of aqua arobics. Can you get yourself to a sal****er pool. Even better for you. The exercise is not to get the weight off diet gets the weight off...it is to be able to move your knees. And see an orthopedic surgeon. Is there any ligament in your knee? Is it bone scraping against bone? Is there a growth under the patella? Many many reasons for your pain. Sometimes lifting ankle weights helps because a gap is created between the bones. You need to find out what is the best physio therapy to have for your severe knee issues.

I don't know how much excess body weight you still have, but my ortho told me the pressure on your knees is about 7 times your weight. So, if you still have a lot to lose, your knees may still improved over time as you lose more.
If you are having sever difficulties, I would think you are under the care of an Ortho. Can they send you to PT??
Personally, I found that weight training was essential to replace the muscle mass lost through the weight loss.

I strongly encourage you to take the good suggestions other members have shared with you. I tried those things but I waited too long and my knees were shot. 10 months ago, I had to have total knee replacement surgery.
Hopefully by losing weight now plus the chair and water exercises will minimize any knee issues.
