Do I need a caretaker immediately after wls?

Can she or someone check in on you for a few days? when I got home, I just didn't want to be bothered. As long as I had the food and supplies I needed, I could putter around on my own just fine, but very slowly. I would shoo away my loved ones to do chores and leave me alone.

I would not stay at the friends home, you will need Peace, for healing. Not additional stress. Your pets will be happier and so will you..

I like the idea of someone checking on you, or to have someone on call, so if you need something.you can get it....but much depends on the procedure you have done.

When my WLS was done decades ago...I had a total of 10 surgical procedures done.( I once explained it as, If they didn't take it out, they played with it! )was in the hospital for 5 days. Went to Mom's couch for two weeks, then home and assumed Mom/wife duties @ home. I Had issue with intake ie..water/protein/calories, so was very weak for 6 weeks.

I pretty much took care of myself after RNY.

As long as you take it easy, you'll do fine on your own. I did fine and had 2 dogs to take care of at the same time.

It's comforting to have someone around all the time.. However, I think you should stay at your place, versus your friends, and have your friend come by your house at mealtime, 3x's a day. You'll need help with your meals, etc. Also, ask other close friends to visit at other times during the day, or call, in case you need something. See if you can have your meals prepared prior to surgery. At least for the first week.

You will be much better off at home then keeping your pets kenneled. You will be worried, uncomfortable and anxious. Not good for recovery.

Get in touch with the Hospital Advocate and see if they will cover nursing visits to your home. There maybe other services that are covered, but you will have to check. Your doctor's office could be very helpful based on their patients past experiences.

I was home for about 5 days after surgery. I was able to care for myself. I really didn't need anyone with me.

There was no need to have anyone cook- I was on clear liquids, I only had to open a bottle.

I found that I did better alone without anyone hovering over me, to relax and do whatever I had to do.
