I am going to do the same experiment and post here. I have some old chocolate chip cookie dough -- I will get some of the new ones and post.

Any excuse to eat a chocolate chip cookie dough.

I'd be interested to hear about any flavor and macro differences in those, too.

I love the Chocolate Chunk flavor. I have noticed that I get a lot more gassy with the new formula. Like if i have two bars in a day I'll clear a room, levels of gas. Doesn't bother me too much, but probably not great for those around me.

Okay. I did the same test with the NEW bar (Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough). First, I will say that the old bar's texture was preferable to me -- and the taste was slightly better, IMHO. You can tell the new packaging by the color of the Quest on the front of the package. The new bars are silver with white lettering and the old bars are brown lettering. Old bars and new bars are equal in calories (190) but the fat content is different. The old bar was 70 calories from fat. The new bar is 80 calories from fat. The carbs are slightly different, too. The old bar was 21 g total carbs, 17 g fiber, 1 g sugar and 1 g Erythritol. The new bar is 20 g total carbs, 14 g fiber, less than 1 g sugar and 2 g of Erythritol. That might be important to those who are sensitive to sugar alcohols?

Here's the blood glucose results from the NEW bar. I will post the old bar tomorrow when I repeat the test.

Starting glucose was 86.

15 minutes: 102

30 minutes: 94

1 hour: 101

2 hours: 96

Seems a bit high to me... but not horrendous.

Edited to add: I ate these for dinner and did drink water with Mio in the 2 hours testing window -- in case that could affect anything.

It's not really much of an increase over your starting number though. Try it with the old formula, then try it with real cookie dough, as a control.

So now that the fibre is soluble the net carbs in the bar are going to be quite high yes? I don't think i buy into the whole net carb hype anyway. I think its the food industry's way of making you think something is low carb and fine when your on a low carb plan when really these foods will slow your weight loss if eaten all the time. Don't get me wrong I love me a Quest bar but I treat them like dessert. Not that I can have one at present.. MMM mushies. Glad to see they're not spiking your blood sugar though.

Yeah, net carbs is a trap. If you really want to count carbs, count them all. Counting only net carbs is just a way to rationalize eating more carbs.

Second day info -- see my original answer for the differences in taste and stats -- cutting and pasting is a nightmare now.

Day 1, new formula (corn fiber) Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough:

  • Starting blood sugar - 86
  • 15 minutes - 102
  • 30 minutes - 94
  • 1 hour - 101
  • 2 hours - 96

Day 2, old formula (iso-malto- oligosaccharides) Chocolate Cookie Dough:

  • Starting blood sugar - 89
  • 15 minutes - 96
  • 30 minutes - 108
  • 1 hour - 92
  • 2 hours - 86

So, in this highly scientific analysis -- for me, the results are pretty similar, with an ending result slightly better with the old bar. That said, I did spike slightly more, and had the highest blood sugar reading, with the old bar as well.
