Sad About Lettuce

Yes! I am so glad that I love a variety of veggies. I also realize that I probably enjoyed all the "toppings" and dressing I used to have on my lettuce rather than the lettuce itself.

Bingo! When people lament about not being able to eat salad I ask them, "What is it that you sooooo love about salads?" Seriously, tell me...

Because once you take away the dressing...croutons...bacon bits...nuts...fruit...cheese...what are you really left with? Some crappy iceburg lettuce and 1/4-1/2 cup of raw veggies. Just eat the raw veggis and call it a day - lol!

Keep cautiously trying from time to time... it changed for me... with a few foods... some just have always been no go... pork chop no matter how it's cooked, chewed, dipped... is the kiss of death. Broccoli unless it's over cooked is another iffy one.

Try different types of lettuce too... I prefer romaine or boston and make little sandwiches "wraps" with it or use it as a scooper or "cups"

Frisee, radicchio, endive lay heavy... I will do it... but aim for protein first or I'm sunk. I'm not a big lettuce salad person now... more cucumber, tomato, etc. with whatever protein.

Try roasting some veggies... not only do they taste Ahhh-mazing that way but they are softer :)

I've tried pork chops three times in three years. I won't try again. It's just not worth it.

I had a hard time with salads at 6 months, but now that I'm 10 moths post op its changed. I now enjoy eating salads with spinach, romaine, cucumbers, bell peppers, tomato and avocado. Its usually a very small salad after my protein. I make my own dressing with the dressing packages so I can add my own healthy oils. Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy salads once again.

This will not be forever - certainly not! Cucumbers are one of my best medicines - I juice though but I eat them too. I've also fallen in love with iceberg lettuce again. It got such a bad rap for not having very little nutritional value for years. One day I happened to have it and it was soooo good. Crisp and sweet and amazing!!! So I have it. If I am having a salad, I choose something like baby spinach.

So yes the ability to eat fresh vegetables will change and become normal with time for sure.

Best,

Leila
