I want to run... But I can hardly walk
So, I have a lot of runners in my area, because we live near a college and the students run a lot. I look at them, longing, with green jealousy steam coming from every orifice...
I dont know why I want to run. Because seeing as I can hardly walk at a brisk pace, without wheezing that is, and that Ive had a complete ACL reconstruction with a tear in my medial meniscus that they said would heal on its own... My knees pop and crack just walking up stairs. It hurts my whole body to run. But it looks like freedom. Maybe cycling would be better for me, less hard impact on my knee. What do you guys think?
Anyone had an ACL repaired that runs? Or cycles? I know nothing about bikes but I am very good at research. Only thing is, it hurts my butt to ride at my weight. Bc I cracked my tailbone a long time ago. It still gives me problems sometimes. But anyway when I lose the weight I may be able to ride then :)
My knees are shot. I've had surgeries on both, and need replacements. So I have a better chance of flying than running.
I walk a lot. I have a recumbent exercise bike that I ride when watching TV or reading. It's much better on my back and butt than a regular bike.
No way would I ride a bike on the streets. I'd be squashed like a bug.

The recumbent bike is easier than anything else I found. Water exercise might be easier on the knees, but it's not practical for everyday exercise.

I think..try running in the pool first. Less impact in the joints...and it is HARDER than running outside due to resistance from the water.
I am training for a half marathon now. I ran on the treadmill cuz my schedule/outside weather didnt permit outside. This morning, I REGRET IT. Both of my knees are tight and stiff.
And I got no knee issues (yet).
Ellipticals are also good for running on.

Just my humble opinion -- you aren't missing out on anything. Running sucks. :-)

I'm not running unless something really scary is chasing me.

Frankly, I decided a long time ago to just lay down and get hacked by the chainsaw killer. I mean, one way they will catch me and I will be all sweaty -- the other they will catch me and I will still be comfortable... well, until the chainsaw hits. But, that's short lived. Literally.
Anyhow, point remains: running sucks.

I am right there with you!! Running definitely sucks. I am a pretty fast walker, though, so maybe I can walk faster than the chainsaw murderers or zombies
