Good point on the gloves! I got a nice pair with gel padding in the palms, they help a bunch.

Pfft. I wish I could ride a bike! It hurts my buttbone too much ever since I cracked it being knocked down by a car that backed into me as I was walking! Well, it didnt hurt when I was smaller but now that Im heavy... Yeah I'm scared to try, even with those big butt seats LOL
Just mayyyybe after I lose this weight I can ride again!
Try again once you lose weight and buy some bike shorts. They have padded butts. Once I lost my weight I was shocked how boney my butt was LOL Being overweight my entire life I didn't realize just how much padding I had back there, but once it was gone I was like ouch. When I bought my bike shorts with the padding I am able to ride for a long time without any pain.
Keep us posted on how you are doing

I second the suggestion for bike shorts with a padded butt. You feel like a total goof at first, but it's SOOOOO worth it! I have a pair with lighter foam, and another pair with thicker gel for long rides.
There are lots of kinds of seats to try, too, including some designed for ladies with cutouts for your tailbone. I ride on a really skinny seat, it looks uncomfortable but there's actually less area for your butt to rub against.
Losing weight definitely helps, though! Before surgery, I could do a mile or two before my butt went numb and I fell over, but I have no trouble doing way longer rides now :)

This is the bike I got last November when I first started wanting to ride again. The thicker tires definitely make it more stable than a road bike, and the seat and front fork shocks make for a really comfy ride on less-than-optimal roads, but I know I'll eventually want to upgrade to something lighter and a little less clunky.
