A few years ago New Jersey Governor Christie had lapband surgery. Here is an announcement on his progress

He is still morbidly obese. HERE is a recent picture. I know he lost any credibility with me when he chose the lapband. I am still shocked his surgeon did not persuade him to have a different surgery.

I am too. I'm surprised that it is still an option. I wanted to be banded in 2008, I wanted it desperately. I'm glad now that I couldn't afford it and had no way to get it done.

He could have had RNY or VSG and now be at goal.

I've been waiting for the announcement that he is having it removed. We all know it's going to happen someday.

5' 5" tall. VSG on August 4, 2015/ Starting weight 239.9/ Surgery weight 210.9/ Current weight 137.4/ Goal weight 140/ No longer overweight, now a NORMAL weight. Now that I'm at goal, it's time to move on to maintenance!!!!!!!!

If he is lucky, he'll just need it removed and won't have massive damage. But he will most likely regret his decision down the road a bit. I know I do!

totally not a victory. He is still morbidly obese. I considered the lap band at first, but after just a little bit of research I became convinced that it was just not for me. The statistical weight loss results are way too low, the actual band failure rate way to high, and the number of people either having it removed or converting to a permanent procedure like VSG or RnY told the story that the lap band was not worth the pain and risk. It is my understanding that very few reputable surgeon even consider the lap band procedure.

just my two shekels worth.

Somehow a lapband is considered more socially acceptable.... "it's not so drastic" "It can be reversed".... I don't get it....
