not loosing any more.
Hi,
I had my surgery on September 10. things went very well. My first post-op visit was great. The Dr. said I was the poster child for Gastric By-pass. I started this journey at 386, lost 22 pound in the pre-op diet. at the first post op visit I weighed 346 and have been stuck at my current weight 335 for well over a week. I am struggling to get the protein in, but have been for the most part successful I always get between 64 to 70 ounces of water a day. How long does this plateau last? I exercise 30 minutes every morning then walk as much as possible during the day. Any suggestions?
Sounds like you are doing just fine. If you follow these boards at all someone post this same thing almost daily. Stalls happen, especially in the beginning. I stalled one week after surgery and it lasted 3 1/2 weeks. It stinks but it passes. One month out it can be hard to get your protein in. If you are doing well with fluids, are you having a protein drink every day? Remember protein first, don't be eating other things if you aren't getting your protein in. You don't have much real estate so you have to make it count.

I do NOT weigh myself more than once per week - your body is too variable to show a loss every day. (This might be different years out, but for now, once a week is enough.) Any more frequently and you will drive yourself crazy. You are probably not stuck at your weight for well over a week. Your body is still adjusting to its new self and hydration levels. Keep following the instructions and your exercise plan seems spot on, as long as your 30 min of daily exercising is appropriate for your current wt. You do not want an injury or to ruin your knees for when you are older.
I am 9 months out, at my goal weight and I weigh only every Sunday, write down the first number, and usually I am pleasantly surprised. Either way the scale goes back under the dresser. I am on track with my eating, water, and vitamins. I usually lost about 12 pounds a month, which is not as much as you, but it adds up, and so will yours. I take key measurements once a month and use them to calculate %body fat.
Even with the surgery, things take time. You seem to be doing very well. Continue to takes things seriously. Here is a video about the factors that influence weight loss after WLS.

THis doctor is not mine, but he is consistent with my doctor (who is excellent, but does not have videos on line.) His other videos are great.

Thanks. I took this process seriously, did a lot of research, follow directions as best as possible, attended all but 1 monthly support group meetings, did weight training, and later all sorts of activity. I lost a consistent 12-15 pounds a month, until I got close to my goal weight. I'm staying with the process and am about 8 pounds under my goal now. Really, you don't know how your body will respond, or how fast because weight loss in the first year is also a factor of genetics and age, so I got lucky. Frankly, after I lost the first 25 pounds I felt as though a miracle had happened. I know I'm in this for the long haul so the war is not yet won, but WLS has been a game changer for me.
Best of everything to you in your journey.

you seem to post a link to this doctor in every post you make. Are you getting paid for this.
No, I am NOT getting paid. That is why I state that this is not my doctor. I find the videos very helpful. Take a look at one and tell me what you think. Lots of people ask very basic questions that indicate that they need some basic information. I paste the links where they address the issues posed.

You may not believe it, but you are doing amazing. you have lost 51 pounds in a relatively short period of time. Every so often your body will say WTF just happened? And you stall. I stalled every 3rd week, even doing things by the book. and my loss was much slower than yours. Put the scale away. It's not important right now. Can you replace some of your water with some protein shakes? Start by replacing just 4 ounces and work your way up.

After the initial post-op loss, you will NOT lose every day. Your scale will quite often display the same number for a whole week, maybe two. Patience!
Search for "three week stall" in the bar at the top of the website. Pretty much EVERYBODY sees a slowdown somewhere around the one-month mark, and it's very common to go a week or two, sometimes more, without loss.
