Meeting with my surgeon next Wednesday!
I'm getting so excited because I meet with my surgeon next week. I have to attend this pre-surgery class for two hours, and then I meet with him one-on-one.
What happened when you first met with your surgeon? I think I'll probably hear all the insurance stuff and what to expect. I'm also thinking he'll start me on the six-month diet. I'm just so excited!
My meeting was a little different. We had a session on the different types of surgery and food limitations. We went over the new food guidelines, then they talked about our insurance requirements. Some in my group were 3 months, some 6. I was 6. We are required to keep a food journal of everything we eat. Then we took the psyc test which was I think 300+ questions. Had to see the shrink a couple months later to go over the test results.
After that I got a break, then saw the surgeon that afternoon. Before I went back they did my height weight bmi, bp etc. The surgeon went over my info and asked me questions. One of the forms that I had to fill out prior to getting to go to this session was on sleeping. Based on my results he wanted me to have a sleep study. Which turned out to be great because I found out I had sleep apnea and had to be on CPAP. I was told that I had to write a letter of intent that I understood the surgery and the complications (and my support person had to also) and that had to be brought back the next month. I also had to have a gallbladder ultrasound scheduled and an endoscopy to make sure I didn't have issues.
My surgeon is very strict and will not operate if you are not compliant. Also, no smoking, drinking, caffeine, bad foods either. If you are on cPAP you also have to be compliant wearing mask or you are disqualified. I'm glad he is this strict it is making me a better tougher person for it.
CongratS!! I put off starting the process by attending the first public info meeting. I do not know why, because having the surgery was a game-changer for me. I am 9 months out and at my goal weight.
I had other meetings, but my surgeon wanting to know about my history and ability to stick to a program so we could make the best decisions - WLS yes/no and then which type. I sugges****ching these 2 videos so you can think through some issues. While the decision making process varies somewhat from dr to dr, these video will help you understand the factors to consider. (This Dr was not my dr, but what he says is consistent with my dr (who is excellent) but does not have videos posted on the internet).
