I had y RNY in April of 2003. My Ferratin level was a 6 or 7, I forget. I have zero energy. My Vit D VERY low as well. I should be having Iron Injections, but have no ins and no money... :(   Also, my teeth started falling out about two years ago. I have nine left, and won't leave my apartment. :(

You have good reason to be scared about the anemia, but not about iron infusions. They are pretty common, and you will feel lots better. You'll never get your iron up with oral supplements alone.

Very common to get low iron 2-3 years post op.. That's why it is Very important to have at least yearly blood works that includes testing ferritin...

App 2 years post op my iron dropped, and oral iron did not do much for me. I ended up having iron infusions. A year later I needed another series..The second lasted 2 years... Now holding steady... So far... But most likely I would need iron infusions every few years...

The RNY makes it difficult to absorb iron, so infusions are quite common, and not a big deal for most.  The good news is that you'll feel so much better quickly thereafter.
