Pediatrician Referral

My son is 17 and his pediatrician will not give him a referral. The bariatric surgeon we have met with only contracts with Mercy Medical Group, Woodland Healthcare, UCD and Sierra Nevada. Anyone know of a pediatrician in the Sacramento area that is familiar with bariatric surgery and is willing to give a referral?

I would agree with your son's pediatrician. WLS is a big step, and takes a lifetime commitment that I'm not sure a 17 year old can make. I honestly feel that it's an adult decision, that only a fully informed adult should make for themselves. I'm sorry, I know that's not what you want to hear.

a reputable pediatrician wouldn't give a referral for Britain surgery to a child who just walked inthe door, for a first visit.

I understand what people are saying about not being old enough to make an informed consent but there are reputable programs set up for pediactric patients that screen patients and treat them before any surgery would take place.
