Reading Labels
I've been off track for a while, and now cir****tances have changed and I'm getting back on track. No "bad" carbs for six days -- that is a major accomplishment for me now and it's building my confidence back up again. Pre-planning menus, weighing and measuring, journaling, etc.
I had forgotten the importance of reading labels. And the fact that doing so, triples the shopping time! Sunday I went to "pick up a few things" and it took me well over an hour because I was comparing labels.
Tomato sauces - varied from 32 carbs per 1/4 cup serving, to 3 carbs. Yogurt comparisons drove me crazy....after comparing four different brands I ended up with Yoplait 100 Greek Yogurt.
I picked up six items (two of them meat that I had to look up on the computer when I got home) and it took forever! But well worth the time and effort because I saved big time on the carb counts.
WLS is definitely not "the easy way out". It involves a lot of work.
Good for you Mary - especially during this difficult time.
I agree that reading all the labels and comparing takes a lot of time and effort. At least the next time you need to purchase those items you will already know which one is best. I pretty much stick to the same things as I know their stats. Maybe a little boring but I am used to it and find it helps me long term to keep my food simple
Good luck and sincerely hope life keeps getting brighter for you
It gets easier... Eventually... After a while you can just scan the labels...
But some processed meats are tricky... - some are cured with sugar so watch closely for that... Hidden sugar...

MaryGee,
Congrats in getting back on track! :) By the looks of it, you are in it. to WIN IT! You will! Pre-planning your meals is hugely important and the secret to MY [albeit short] success!
I generally stick with Greek 100 yogurt too. They have good interesting flavors, not too many carbs or sugar.
Sometimes food labels can be really rough. For me, figuring out the POPCORN LABEL. Why cant they tell me how many servings are in a bag POPPED and how many calories per serving? Or better yet, just tell me how many calories are in a whole bag of popped popcorn and let me make my decisions from there.
This 2 tblsps unpopped info, is for the birds.
:)
You will do great!
Looking for some great SV's and NSVs out of you soon!

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
It's crazy how much the same basic product can vary so much in nutrition stats, isn't it? It can be overwhelming, but like Hala said..it does get easier.
Hugs, Mary.
