There's NO reason to ask for little or no oil. YOu have an RNY; you malabsorb fat, and always will. The human body needs 30-40 grams of fat EVERY DAY for proper brain function, hair, skin, joint lubrication, etc. Since the average RNYer malabsorbs about 30% of the fat they eat, they need to eat 45-60 grams of fat a day.

Thanks for the info; however, my Doctor and nutritionist have advised me to keep Fats and Sugars at 5 grams per serving, so I am trying to follow that.  I am definitely getting sufficient fat throughout the day.

Good for you trying to keep with your surgeon's recommendations;  however, too low fat intake contributes to constipation.

EVOO, avocadoes, cashews, etc., are also good for your digestive system.  (Urgh--something I have learned from experience!)

Fortunately, I haven't really had constipation issues so far (except two times when I wasn't drinking enough water-I learned my lesson).  I am eating all of those things you mentioned.  The limitation is per serving, so I still manage to get in fats throughout the day.

Many restaurants have seniors' menus, which have smaller servings than adult servings.  Plus, seniors' menus are a lot healthier than children's menus, the latter which may be extremely high in sugar carbs and very low in protein.  I have been ordering from seniors' menus without any issues at all since my DS surgery more than 7 years ago.

Many restaurants offer smaller servings from adult menus.  Read each menu carefully.  Or, ask your server.
