Hi all,

I will be coming up on my last nutritionist appointment before surgery next month and I am wondering how long you all waited from that appointment to setting up surgery?  Did you have to just wait for your insurance approval or is there something like another month before that can happen?  I am so ready to do this and don't want to get it done asap.  I think I would do my surgery tomorrow if I could.  I just want to be postop and getting on with my new life if that makes sense.

Thanks!!!

You'll need to wait for your surgeon's office to assemble all of the paperwork (and gather anything else up if needed), then send it off to the insurance company. It usually takes about 2 weeks for insurance to give approval. You'll usually speak with the surgeon's scheduler a week or two later, and surgery is often scheduled for 2 - 4 weeks after that, depending on how busy the doctor is.

Every place is different.  Once all of your surgeon's and insurance company requirements have been met, the surgeon will assemble your paperwork and submit it to your insurer.  So it depends if all requirements are met, how quickly your doctor's office gets your paperwork submitted and forwards it to insure, and then how quickly it moves along their process.  Call your surgeon and insurer to confirm all requirements are met, then follow-up with your surgeon's office in a week to see if the paperwork has gone out, then wait a few days and call your insurer to be sure they have the paperwork, then follow up weekly.

These few weeks will drive your crazy!!! But you'll get a phone call soon saying everything's all set, and your surgery has been schedued for _____________.

Thanks so much Mary.  Your right on the going crazy part.  I am already anxious and know I have about a month to go until my last appointment with the nutritionist.  I wish they could just schedule the surgery for the week after that.  Another month or so of waiting seems far too long.

Hopefully the time will fly by and I will be scheduled before I know it.
