Have any of you tried turmeric to help with Joint issues?

I have been hitting the gym hard and feeling it in the "knees". Don't want to take any over the counter pain meds. Has anyone tried Turmeric to help reduce pain and did it work?  There seems to be a lot of tea, extract "claims" it takes the place of taking Ibuprofen on the internet?  But then we know how the internet LIES

Thanks

This is a pretty good summary of the research that's out there.

Basically, any evidence suggesting it helps with pain/inflammation is weak and not proven in humans.

Thanks Julie,

I went to WebMD and it was so funny.  It listed all the "medical" issues that Turmeric claimed to work but said there was not much research. That was why I was wondering if anyone tried it personally!

Take care,

Kathy

Just a warning for anyone reading this who is taking blood thinners: you should NOT take turmeric because it interacts with the action of the anticoagulant.

I know that Poet Kelly was using the turmeric for inflammation. She said that it helped her some, but that it took a number of weeks of taking it daily to notice anything.

I started taking a bromelain/tumeric supplement post-plastics for post-surgery swelling...and I still take it twice a day at 9 weeks out.  When I miss a dose I absolutely feel it.

However, I too have knee issues and haven't noticed one bit of improvement in that area while taking this.  And it's been long enough that I would have noticed something by now.
