RNY vs vertical gastric sleeve
I've been warned not to be overly involved since this is her journey. We are researching at this point. Every day I read about more complications post op. I am well aware of obesity risks lifelong as I am a nurse who has actually worked in this speciality.
She is following Dr McDougall's program for maximum weight loss and working with a personal trainer at a local hospital based exercise facility as preparation prior to surgery.
Any references you could suggest with statistics indicating % of bariatric patients *****gret having surgery 10+ years post op?

Very few people have any regrets . I personally know people ho had the surgery 30 years ago and continue to be grateful, healthy, non-overweight and realize it was all possible due to the bypass .
There are a surprising amount of patients who do not follow post op directions at all and don't supplement vitamins , never follow up with the surgeon and a small percentage of these noncompliant patients gets into health trouble around ( from what I've personally observed ) usually eight years or so post op . Again I think a far larger percentage of patients fail to cooperate vs the ones who end up with health complications - either the second group is more illness-prone or unluckier ... or maybe they just don't respond to their bodies instincts to eat healthy foods that contain the vitamins they're low in etc.
I was very surprised talking to other patients in my bariatric recovery ward that none of them knew of OH and most were utterly ignorant of the post op changes they'd have to make . The ones I kept in touch with never followed the surgeons directions about eating etc... I was REALLY surprised.
