Protein intolerance

4 weeks ago I had a revision surgery from lap band to bypass. My pouch is so tight though that I have not been able to advance my diet. Needless to say I'm still on liquids I can I get down or I'll throw up. Not only that I have not found a protein supplement that does not completely blow my coming up with gas and cause diarrhea. Does anyone out there know of a particular type of protein drink that does not do this? I am paranoid if I keep on the same track I will be bald headed.

First and foremost call your surgeons office and get their recommendations.  I know they make plant based proteins.  See if the surgeon's office thinks they may be a good alternative for you.  Keep us posted on how you are doing

You could be lactose intolerant.  Check the label on your protein.  If it contains whey concentrate, it contains lactose.  Look for a protein that is 100% whey isolate.  They are 99% lactose free.  Mix protein powders with almond milk, soy, milk, cashew milk or water.  I was sick for three months before I fugured out that I was lactose intolerant and my protein powder was making me sick.

I think you might have that backwards-- whey is milk, so she'd want soy if she's lactose intolerant?

Egg white powder might be a good option, or something labelled as "vegetarian" which often includes chia, hemp, and/or pea protein.

Whey isolate is super filtered so most of the lactose is removed ( like 99%) Whey concentrate is not.  Whey Isolate is also absorbed better than plant based protein.  If you have a whey allergy, which is way different than being lactose intolerant, the only option would be a plant based protein.  In that case, plant based protein is better than nothing.

I found a few good tasting proteins - with no milk, whey or soy.

Egg white proteins, Vega One, Vega Sport, Orgain (even Costco sell the powder).

I mix mine with some unsweet almond or coconut milk.

I have a similar reaction to whey protein, and I have the same problem with straight milk, although I can tolerate most other dairy just fine.  Try switching to egg protein powder.  Jay Robb brand has single-servings so you don't have to invest in a large tub to try it.  Another bonus is that it doesn't have that horrible aftertaste that the whey protein has.
