WLS Ettiquite Question

My awesome coworker just came in my office and gave me this little present. Here's my question... when people give you food as a present, do you tell them you can't/won't/don't eat it, or do you gracefully take it and feed it to a family member or friend? I appreciate the thought, but I don't want to lie to the guy if he asks about it.

Thanks for the opinions!

If the co-worker asked about it, *I* would say "your gift was so thoughtful I decided to share it with my family".  Why make a big deal about it?

Wow, you have such a thoughtful co-worker!  I hope you get an opportunity to return the gesture  :-)

Oh what a great question!  I would say (if you are out of the closet about your WLS) that since you have had WLS you choose not to indulge in sweet treats any longer but very much appreciate his kind gift and that you will look like a hero when you regift this to your (insert the lucky recipiant here)

I have thrown more "food gifts" in the garbage than I can count now.  I smile say thanks and toss it when they leave my office.   it's just so much easier. People just don't get it. every single person in my office knows, watched me through the whole journey and now feel as though I can eat like them  LOL

I always share goodies. If someone asks, a good response is "I didn't want to eat them all myself, so I shared them with my spouse/neighbor/whatever. Thank you!"

I would thank them profusely, and give it away later, or share it with other coworkers -- if it didn't hurt the gift giver's feelings.

Except, -- are those malted milk balls? If those are malted milk balls, I would crawl under my desk and eat them all. If anyone got too close, I would bite their hand.

MY fave!

I dont keep them in the house because of it.

You know. It is really hard to give small tokens of thanks. I feel for you and the colleague. But from the colleague's perspective, food is nice but inexpensive, flowers might kill someone with an allergy and gift cards look "impersonal"

Saying thanks is hard these days in PC correct world.

I go "impersonal" and buy starbucks gift cards...

My co-workers always ask "if" I can eat or "if" I want.  It is no big deal when I tell them NO.  They don't want me to feel left out of the group and I appreciate them thinking of me.  Sometimes I say thanks "I can't or I don't want", but I have a boy at home that would love it and take it home to him.
