How to identify a bogus poster?

I have only been coming to this board for less than a year, but I do notice some questionable posts.  For those of you that have been around OH long term, what are your first clues that someone is disingenuous?  And if you really believe that is the case...how/or do moderators intervene?

My first clues to a bogus post are:

-- A crazy claim with no obvious reason for posting it (i.e., they're going to lead into trying to sell something)

-- Questionable grammar/spelling (not a given, but a common trait I've noticed)

-- Something unusually inflammatory as their first post

And the most obvious:

-- They're trying to sell something

Thank you.  I find grammar/spelling interesting

I think it's because a lot of them are outside North America and aren't native English speakers. Not to say that the OH community wouldn't welcome members from all over, but a disproportionate amount of the trolls seem to be overseas. Sometimes it's not spelling or grammar so much as odd or outdated terminology or missing words, like "I found great no surgery way to reduce weight."

If it's a brand-new member, first time posting, and it's a topic designed to create a ****storm, it's a troll.

Here's an example of what I was talking about with the spelling/grammar/odd word choices. I just got this as a PM today. Before I could flag it, the account was deactivated:

"Greetings and compliment of the season from
Faith , i saw your profile and became interested in knowing you i will also like to know you the more, email me at ( [email protected] ) to enable me tell you more about myself for you to know whom i am, you can drop your e-mail address here so that i can write to you direct to your mail box, i will be waiting to read from you. With Regards, Miss
Faith"

Oh my goodness!  Now, that would just scare me!!  I was strictly referring to posters in open forums with just unusual suggestions or pleas...either 'pot-stirring' or somehow in hopes of gaining money or favors of sort from board members.

So, this is something you report to moderators?  Thanks for sharing.

.
