I have been 100% on program with my supervised weight loss since attending my first class on 8/4.  I'm getting all my water in each day.  Something is drastically wrong with me and it seems to be getting worse every day.

Since my class, when I began the diet, I have been having excruciating muscle spasms throughout my entire body.  I saw my sleep doctor just this Monday and mentioned the muscle spasms.  She thinks the problem is that my electolytes are out of wack, specifically my calcium and magnesium levels.  She wrote a note to my PCP, since I see him this Friday, to run labs on my electrolytes.

I swear I have never had such pain.  Last night I almost had my husband take me to the ER.  It's still a possibllity but I'm trying to hold out until I see my PCP on Friday.

Has anyone had these debilitating spasms?  For the last 30 years I have suffered with maybe a spasm in my thigh a couple of times a week.  I improved them by taking a daily magnesium supplement.  My past spasms were NEVER anything like I am experiencing now.  These are literally throughout my body all day and night.

Has anyone had problems with electrolyte imbalance?  Was it causing body spasms?

Also could be Potassium- Drink a Low sodium V-8 juice- has lots of potassium... even if you add salt to it to make it taste better, the low sodium has more potassium than the regular. Morton Lite salt is a combo of regular salt and potassium chloride - so more potassium. Bananas, spinach all good. But V-8 has the most.

V8 really?!  Iwill try it. I really like bananas but the NUTsaid no bananas on the diet.  Until 11 days ago I would have one a day.

I didn't know about spinach.  Looks like I will switch from lettuce to spinach salads.  Thanks!

The V8 low sodium - had salt substitute - that is made with potasium.

Also no-salt salt (grocery isle) is that.

But make sure you don't have allergies to some of the ingredients in the shakes. Or any new food you are introducing.

Low carb diet makes us lose a lot of water very rapidly... So supplementing with magnesium, calcium, salt - is very important.

I drink diluted diet tonic.

Thank you for your input.  It can't be the shakes, I don't drink them very often, and I'm not introducing any new food that I haven't eaten my entire life.  The only things I am doing/have done differently since before SWL is drink so much water 64+oz/day, increased my vitamin D from 1,000 to 3,000, and cut out sweets and carbs (potatoes, pasta, bread, corn, etc).

Ironically, last night my blood work report was posted onto my medical network.  This lab was done a week ago, before I saw my sleep doc (she recommended checking my electrolytes).  The report says my BUN went from 12 on July 7th to 21 on August 7th, which could be due to an increase in my BP med (the reason for the bloodwork), or being on a high protein diet.  My glucose serum also went from 93 to 141, and my sodium level dropped from 141 to 135.  All the other numbers were about the same as always.  For some reason the lab doesn't test for the magneseum level.  I will ask for this when I see my PCP tomorrow.

Hi Iking - I think when it was mentioned about introducing new foods, it means foods you haven't had since your surgery. It was explained to me that as you progress your diet, some foods that you were OK with pre-surgery might cause issues post-surgery. Consider it like tiptoeing into unchartered waters and introducing 1 'new' food at a time to see how you handle it... that way you can troubleshoot what might be causing issues.  Hope this helps!

I haven't had surgery yet.  Right now I am still in my 3 months of supervised weight loss classes.
