REVISON WLS
on 8/7/15 11:45 am - MADISON, AL
Good Day, I'm looking for help. I relocated to ALABAMA and I have been seeking a WLS doctor for a Revision. However, the state of AL, does not seem to be progressive enough to think the have a revision is important. I have visited a Dr. (Malapar) who told me that it was fault that you are fat and trying to get him to correct my mistake is too bad. That I will have to live with being FAT!... I told him that was a horrible assessment. He said its the truth. Then I visited another Dr. Shrugg who I had to pay a $300.00 consultation fee to say he doesn't perform revisions. I indicated to him that he has it advertised on his social media pages. He said that this surgery isn't profitable for his practice :/. I have even travelled to ATL, GA to Peachtree WLS Dr. Duncan, but his office staff is the worse. The office does not have special procedure in place for out of town patients and very rude and unprofessional.
So, now I'm looking for a Surgeon who has a office staff that does not subject to an emotional red tape. I need help....thank you in advance for any assistance you can provided.
Regards,
CM
What makes you think you need a revision? What surgery did you have originally? When was it? What are your weight stats? We used to live in Huntsville. Have you consulted anyone in Nashville, Chattanooga or Memphis?
When you reference not having special procedures for out of town patients, what are you talking about? We live very rurally and some of my sons specialists are 350 miles away. We never get any special treatment at the doctors office. I have never heard of that.

Why are you driving out of state when you could just call the office and ask if the surgeon performs revisions, takes your insurance, and/or sees patients from out of town?

Sorry for the confusion. .the surgeon in Atl does perform revisions...the appointments are in the middle of rhe week and some weekly...driving 4hours is the biggest inconvenience..outside the rude behavior. The staff makes about appts. Tuesday 10 am and iim still waiting to see the dr. at 2pm, which for 10mins. And then the next appt friday 9am and maybe i get to see the dr. Before the close at 1pm for the weekend. I need a dr. Performs revision where i dont have to travel long distance or if long distance, who accomodates out if town patient. I.e. labs, and certain testing completed with my local labs...the dr. Where i live don't believe in revisions..

When I had my DS 11+ years ago, my surgeon was about 2.5 hours from my home. His office was very accommodating---they arranged things so that I could have my psych eval, my pre-op testing, and my surgical consult all the same day. Made for a hectic day, but it was better than repeated trips back and forth. Unfortunately my surgeon has since retired.
Boyce is an experienced RNY-to-DS surgeon. So is Houston in Nashville, but Houston's VERY picky about who he will accept as a patient.
If a person has weight loss surgery, does not comply with the eating and exercise requirements and does not lose their weight or loses and then gain back, a doctor does not want to do a revision because most likely nothing is going to change.
If you had surgery, then you most likely still have your tool. For most of us the only revision needed is to eat the proper foods in the proper amounts. Many surgical revisions result in about a 20 pound loss of weight. You can almost always do that yourself by cutting calories.
You do not have to stay fat, but you do need to restrict calories.
