Question about your skin post op

Hi everyone.  I have not had surgery yet but have a question about the condition of your skin after surgery.  I'm not talking about the loose skin which eventually happens all over.  Given that there is hair loss after surgery, I'm wondering if you end up with extremely dry skin and need to do super moisturizing.  Your face??

Also does your hair grow back in about the same as it was pre-surgery.  I have really thick hair and I was just wondering if it would be the same after the hair loss?  I don't care, but just wondering what was the experience of most people.

My skin is only dry when I'm not keeping up with fluids.

My hair was fine before surgery and after two separate instances of hair loss I still have fine hair. I've managed to keep it long the entire time without it looking ridiculous. While the shedding was annoying no one else noticed it. I was expecting the worst with hair loss and thought I would need a wig. Turns out that the hair loss isn't always as bad as you might think. There may be others that would disagree. The keys are to keep up with your vitamins and protein recommendations from your doctor.

Some people who go really low fat in their diet say they have dry skin, and hair. But I don't see many people complain about dry skin otherwise.

Thanks for the responses.  I was just wondering if the shock of the surgery to your body caused any skin problems.

This is pure guesswork, but I don't think the shock from surgery effects our skin, except around the incisions of course. Hair yes, skin no. But radically altered and very low calorie diets, or vitamin deficiencies, can cause skin issues.

I'm older and never used lotions and stuff pre op, but post op can't live with out a daily lube head to toe of body oil. My hair grew back about the same but stronger and I don't have thin hair. I did add nutrient dense-rich foods for better skin, nails, and hair, and just to have better health. I experiment with foods and herbs since taste buds now call for different foods post op. Good luck.

My skin in super dry now, but it was dry to start with. Of course it no longer plumpy so it looks drier again - even when I've gotten in 100+ days.

hair is finally growing back, thank god. I went super short and it fell out by the handful.

My skin overall is no different after surgery than it was before.  My facial skin is oilier, which I don't mind at all,  but that's because I am going through menopause.  I also didn't lose any hair.  You may not either, but from what I hear, if you do lose it, it tends to grow back.

Actually my skin is in much better shape than it was before because my diet is so much better. I used to get these pretty big zits along my jaw during TOM and that has completely resolved. I had some adult acne pre VSG and again that has resolved. I think i have had maybe 2 zits in 8 months and I believe that I may not have been cleaning well enough after all the exercise I was doing. I had super dry skin pre-surgery. I still have dry skin but I think it has improved again, probably because of diet change and the increase in fluids.
